Message Hello everyone! I just purchased a 1990 300ZX TT and have a couple of small things that need to be looked at. However, the biggest issue that I noticed is that sometimes the turbos seem to lag too much. Its kind of hard to explain this issue, but here goes. When I drove the car before, the turbos seemed to spin up relatively fast and even with the stock exhaust the lag was nothing compared to the lag on my stock WRX. Now, (at random times), when I accelerate fully from low rpm's, the car boosts, turbos spool up, but the car doesn't pull at all. It feels like a there might be a boost leak, but then I let the gas out and accelerate again and the car takes off. The performance is very inconsistent and I cannot figure out where to start digging to fix this problem. I recently put in an intake and catback exhaust. The car definitely became faster but at the same time the lag became more obvious. The car has 160k miles w/ stock turbos-perhaps they are going out? I've changed the fuel filter, sparkplugs, most fluids but still no luck. Also, the exhaust has a "temporary" small leak between the cat and the new exhaust(stock bolt broke off and i still didnt drill it out) but i doubt it would make much difference. Or maybe Im wrong. This is my first Z and Im desperate to fix it and make the car run like a beast that it is. If anybody can point me in the right direction and give me some advice it would save me a lot of trouble. Thanks in advance!
